Sunday 11.30.03

Wednesday. That was the last time that I updated. Shit, here I am in the mood to rag on Angelo for not updating his site and I haven't updated mine. Great weekend so far, though I haven't really done anything exciting but no complaints.

I always find myself feeling very productive on weekends. I compile lists of stuff that needs to be done. Things I want/need to do and then sit here playing Grand Theft Auto all day and end up wondering where the weekend went. This weekend has been about 50/50 on that front.

I think my problem is that while I think I'm organized, in reality I'm not. I guess that explains why I find myself updating the site, checking my mail, only to wander away and make something to eat and then decide to dust, or something.

So that's why I haven't updated since Wednesday, I was dusting...

Wednesday 11.26.03

Just realized that I had somehow managed to delete the text sizer thingy. Obviously not the most popular feature or perhaps someone would have mentioned that is wasn't working any longer... Nothing for news here. Work is busy, transit sucks but on some level I like it and that is about all.

The weeks are just flying by lately... I'm not sure what's up with that but I'm not complaining. I still haven't tried to sell the car and I don't know what the hell is the matter with me. I'm paying for insurance and transit and not driving the car.

I should really get on posting an ad for it as I'm already scheming about what I'll do with the money that I'd save by not having it anymore. The smart person would sell the asset before thinking about spending the proceeds. I do not fit that category.

In news of the fun, Andrea has decided to set up a 'din and drinks thingy' for next month. Sounds great as I haven't seen her in the longest time and she also invited Paul who is all aflutter over the evening. That should be a drunk-fest if ever there was one...

I added a few things to the Tools page and cleaned up some dead links.

Monday 11.24.03

Well, just about time for an update. Busy weekend but a fun one. Friday was Rachel's birthday so Biff organized a surprise party for her. From my standpoint, the biggest surprise was that it was a surprise.

There had to have been at least 40 people expected and my job was to get there while The ******'s were at dinner, put the booze in the fridge and let people in.

All was going well until Karan got there and for some reason I couldn't let him in. After several phone calls I finally went down to an angry, frozen mob. More angry that Biff had given the wrong address on the invitation. That's right, Paul doesn't know where he lives.

After a period of delay, The ******'s arrived and much merriment took place. As per usual, some staggering was detected on the way home.

Saturday I was a bit off, so I laid low. Went into work for a bit on Sunday and then wasted the rest of the day playing Grand Theft Auto.

Thursday 11.20.03

Damn is work busy these days. We have this unrealistic release date for our project and now all of a sudden I'm doing all this customer support crappola... What perfect timing.

I also got caught up with a few friends that I haven't talked to in a long time. Pav came online for her bi-annual internet usage this morning. Nice to get caught with her after so long. Apart from her sister in law totaling her car Sunday, all is well. Then I got home and found an email from Carmen sitting in my Inbox.

I wish I had more to talk about than how busy work is. The new mattress is in place and it's so comfortable... damn near worth the money. Also, I downloaded iTunes and I highly recommend it.

I've kept Winamp around as iTunes doens't have nearly as many radio staions but the interface is great. I really like way it lets you sort and rank the music too. Good stuff. I wish more people used it at work as you can play music from their play lists but right now there is only Matt and he's into the electronica a little too much but he's a *NIX guy so that makes him cool.

Wednesday 11.19.03

Haven't been updating much lately. Partly due to not having much to say and partly because I've been working on other things the past few days.

I revamped my budget and that's been taking up a lot of my time. Not only the format of the spreadsheet I use but in my allocations. The bottom line is that you move the peanuts around all you want but it doesn't increase the number of peanuts you have to work with.

Today my new mattress will be delivered! Yeah me! I guess the $800 spent on the bed might have had something to do with the budget work. Whatever, I'm looking forward to not waking up with a stiff back.

Man, Biff has been slagging me big-time lately. What's up with that? Me thinks it's time for some payback... *submits biff's email to herbal viagra spammers*

Sunday 11.16.03

Congratulations Chrissy and Bryan!

[UPDATE] Max was born around 3PM today and is happy and healthy! Chrissy is tired, Bryan is happy and Neal and Ardie are proud grandparents. I look forward to meeting Max and referring to Neal as 'Gramps'. [/UPDATE]

Saturday I did something that I should have done long ago. I bought a new mattress. The one I have now is in bad shape and my back has been complaining for some time now, so I knew I had better look into a new one. $800 later, I am the proud owner of a comfortable mattress. For $800 it had better be comfortable but I'll find out on Wednesday night.

After spending money I don't have, I hooked up with Biff and we headed to a friends place to watch the game. Stu lives in Metrotown so we checked our firearms and set out. It was my first pay per view game and it was interesting to watch as there are no commercials. They also don't turn the cameras away when there is a dust up during the play. Nice to see Dan standing up for himself.

I've also decided to officially dump the car as I haven't driven it in almost two weeks and haven't been all that bothered by not using it. Transit is much easier when you just sit down and read something. Plus Infowave is flexible enough that it really doesn't matter much when I start or leave.

Wednesday 11.12.03

It's Wednesday so you know what that means! It's time to patch Windows again!! Microshaft released a number of patches today so head to WIndows Update and get yourself patched. Nice of Microshaft to bring these out once a month so that your system is vulnerable for a few extra weeks.

In news of the uninteresting, I've posted the 'about' page which is really just mswan.com at this point. It will probably take 24 hours before the new page shows up. I know that you're all holding your breath...

I imagine no one will enjoy this, but I did. Switch Linux.

I'm working on my About page, figuring that I should do something with my name domain. It's the first page where I just let Dreamweaver create it all for me. It sounds great but I spent more time removing stuff than it would have taken me to just create it myself.

I installed the new Google Deskbar and it the coolest thing in the world! It sits on the taskbar and you don't even need to launch your browser to make it work. Get it from Google.

Nothing to report except that I finished updating all the v4 pages to the new layout and added to the layouts page.

Oh, and 'Hello' to the person in Estonia that has been visiting the site.

That is all.

Friday 11.07.03

[UPDATE] You know, Shaw pisses me off at times. Nothing like Rogers used to but still... I called them and told them I wanted to buy my modem and make some changes to my channel line up. This after waiting on hold for thirty minutes and listening to their ads and "We're experiencing high call volume..." messages. The modem deal is actually cool; $30 for the brick I got from the in '99 which is apparently better than the new one according to the guy who hooked me up when I moved downtown. The added bonus is that I get a five year warranty starting today so if it pukes, they'll replace it. Nice.

What irritated me was when I tried to drop some channels (and I mean half of what I have now) it came out to be $0.76 more per month. How does that make any sense? 100+ channels costs less than 45?

I mean I watch four channels with any regularity but three of them are high channels so I'm stuck. I hate it when I'm stuck. Oh, one last thing... Biff no one thinks you're funny... [UPDATE]

I thinking about dumping the car again. This comes after a dinner on Wednesday where I took the train into work to avoid looking for parking in Yaletown. Many thanks to Kim for organinzing that by the way. It was a good evening despite the fact my stomach has been 'odd' ever since.

Anyway, I haven't driven my car since and I'm wondering if I should just sell it and be done with it. It's a bit faster to drive most days, but not much and the train is a bit cheaper but not much. It's nice to just sit on the train, read something and wait until I get there.

The problem, of course, is the bus. They suck in the worst way, they're never on time and I seem mentally incapable of actually waiting for one. If I can see it, I'll wait but if I can't, I just start walking. Now this week has been cold but sunny and I think back to the spring when I was walking to Gastown in the rain and hating life.

The big thing is that I really enjoy being downtown and actually noticing things. When you're in the car, all you can focus on is not hitting something or being hit by something and making that light. Plus the exercise is a good thing too as I notice my Molson muscle turning into a full blown spare tire.

For sale, one CRX?

The beauty and power of the net is the humble hyperlink. Enjoy some interesting sites...

Found on TechTV; Another compelling reason to spend more time surfing eBay.

Have you ever wondered what the net looks like? Wonder no more.

How about a complete description of all of Starbucks offerings. I'm pretty sure that this will make Paul's week... Sadly, by the time this is posted, he'll be dead. *a tear*

Finally, how about a time lapse of the Toronto skyline. It requires Quicktime, but it's cool and free so you should have it anyway.

Saturday 11.01.03

Over heard in a north shore WalMart this afternoon:

her: Why are you wasting all that money on toilet paper?
him: It's a good deal...

For a moment there, I questioned if I was in Surrey. "It looked like the Lions Gate bridge..."

I hung around work last night and got my ass kicked playing Xbox. Poor Rowley was stuck with me as his team mate for a game of capture the chicken(?). Maybe there's a reason I'm not a gamer...

After that I swung past Carrie and Greg's new place for a drink. Really nice house with great views of the city. Carrie was in this ridiculous costume and ate a bad carrot. Like an idiot I also ate one to confirm that it was bad. It was. Not many kids came in the two hours I was there. I guess they were more interested in setting off fireworks.

I was dead tired and excused myself early as there was no way I was going to still be awake by the time the other guests got there. With that, I drove home, checked my mail and crashed. Exciting Friday night, indeed.
